چکیده

Organic obstruction of the pulmonary veins is a rare cause of hypertension in the lesser circulation. Rhomberg in 1891 (quoted by Biirki (1963)) suggested that right ventricular hypertrophy might be due to disturbances in the pulmonary veins, but little note was taken of pulmonary vein lesions producing cor pulmonale until the 1930s when Hora (1934) and Mallory (1937) each described a single case. Others have been described since, and the literature was reviewed by Biirki in 1963. The present case is presented because of the growing interest in and awareness of the condition, because the diagnosis was suggested by biopsy during life, and because a possible clue to the cause is suggested.

Pulmonary vascular occlusion and fibrosing mediastinitis.

Patients with fibrosing mediastinitis causing obstruction of pulmonary veins and arteries may present with many of the historic, physical, and laboratory findings of patients with pulmonary hypertension due to chronic thrombotic obstruction of major pulmonary arteries. Because the latter is subject to surgical correction, and the former is not, it is important to differentiate between the two a...

Correlation Between Upper Airways Obstructive Indexes in Adenotonsilar Hypertrophy with Mean Pulmonary Arterial Pressure

Introduction: Hypertrophied tonsils and adenoids may cause upper airway obstruction and cardio-pulmonary complications due to pulmonary arterial hypertension. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) and selected adenotonsilar hypertrophy indexes. Materials and Methods: Thirty two patients with upper-airway obstruction resulting ...

Intrapulmonary vascular shunt pathways in alveolar capillary dysplasia with misalignment of pulmonary veins.

Alveolar capillary dysplasia with misalignment of pulmonary veins (ACD/MPV) is a lethal neonatal lung disease characterised by severe pulmonary hypertension, abnormal vasculature and intractable hypoxaemia. Mechanisms linking abnormal lung vasculature with severe hypoxaemia in ACD/MPV are unknown. We investigated whether bronchopulmonary anastomoses form right-to-left shunt pathways in ACD/MVP....

Pulmonary venous and arterial hypertension due to chronic fibrous mediastinitis. Hemodynamics and pulmonary function.

ALTHOUGH chronic fibrous mediastinitis is responsible for 8 to 23% of the cases of superior vena caval obstruction,1-7 it may also compress or obstruct other mediastinal structures. Involvement of the tracheobron-chial tree" 8, 9pulmonary artery,10-12 esophagus ," 9, 13 aorta, and coronary arteries14 has been reported. Obstruction of pulmonary veins, however, is uncommon and may not be recogniz...
